A good command of palpation skills is crucial for proper assessment and patient management through manual therapy. This online course is designed to improve palpation skills for physiotherapists through accurate anatomical reference and practical demonstrations to illustrate clinical application for physiotherapists to enhance their palpation skills through practical applications. It includes a first-rate authentic learning environment based on the body surface – including surface anatomy, joint lines identification, muscle tracing, appropriate ligament location, nerve palpation, etc.
The course is organized regionally (upper limb, lower limb, spine), allowing learners to take a staged approach to develop tactile discrimination and clinical judgement. The high-resolution video presentations contain slow-motion demonstrations, clinician commentary and teaching tips for hand placement, pressure, and tissue discrimination. The course covers both the palpation and evaluation considerations through interactive learning via case studies, which help students to apply theory to real-world situations.
The course helps bridge the gap between theory and hands-on treatment and clinical experience. For all Academy of Physical Therapy clients, whether it be assessing for joint or other musculoskeletal dysfunctions, muscle tightness or myofascial restriction's, refined palpation skills will enhance your diagnosis and improve patient management. There are also downloadable palpation charts, and self-assessment checklists available, to solidify learning and confidence with clinical judgement for palpation skills.
It is recommended for physiotherapy students, new graduates, and practicing physiotherapists who want to establish a robust clinical foundation, and/or refine their assessment methods. This course will provide a certificate of completion, which will improve your confidence, competency and efficacy when conducting a musculoskeletal evaluation.
