When handing back diagnostics with comments, lecturers will ask students to write down for 1-3 mins in response to the feedback they received. This may open up a dialogue around their writing process, which will shift the focus away from summative grades and towards the method of writing, thinking about writing, and improving writing. Using this technique on formal writing assignments will help students practice meta-cognition, which may improve their critical-thinking skills.
